Dichterlinde (Poets’ Lime Tree)
Shelter and protection under the Dichterlinde
And what a lime tree it is! Its mighty trunk, its widely spread branches – a wonderful sight on the Hasental-Grund-Schurtannen hiking trail. In the medieval times of the plague, it was a custom for the survivors to plant a lime tree in order to keep away any further disasters. Is the Hasentaler Linde one of these plague lime trees? It’s more probable that the one-time owner of the nearby farm planted it to celebrate a new-born heir. One way or the other: you can take the time to ponder the answer and bring yourself into a poetic mood under the shelter and protection of the Poets’ Lime Tree.
