Flössen Lake Aegeri

Lake

The mountain forest on the southern side of the lake is used by both the Unterägerer and Oberägerer corporations. The terrain is very steep and poorly accessible for the removal of the felled logs.

Flossen

The forest workers bring the floating logs into the shape of a triangle. First, the workers form an open frame of logs with special chains, into which they then integrate the remaining trees with the help of the "raft hook", using a lot of balancing skills. Finally, the triangle is closed and tied crosswise with wire ropes. The raft is ready for the crossing. On the day of the crossing it must be windless. Foehn winds would cause the weighty package to drift. Two motorboats serve as propulsion, which "push" the raft to Ober- or Unterägeri at a speed of 2 km/hour.
