Cherry culture in the Zug-Rigi region has been cultivated for half a millennium. The Zug Kirsch and the Rigi Kirsch have been coveted beyond the country's borders for 200 years, and Zug and Schwyz are known for their blossoming high-stem cherry trees. An impressive example of this is the "Arther Kirschgarten". Wild cherry trees grow in the forests above the eastern shore of Lake Zug, and chestnut trees have been found on the climatically spoiled slopes of the Walchwilerberg since the 14th century.
