ALONG THE RIVER LORZE

WALKS AND HIKES

To wander the hiking routes along the Lorze is to wander through contemporary history. Enter the 19th century at Villa Villette, with its beautiful park, then walk back to the 12th century to the mysterious ruins of a castle—the former seat of the knights of Hünenberg. Journey on to the 13th century and see Switzerland's oldest Cistercian Monastery, Frauenthal Abbey, which stands on an island formed by a fork in the Lorze river. Next, the Industrial Trail will take you to the era of industrialisation, bringing the spirit of that age to life. You will also see the Baarburg, which has always been the subject of wild speculation, because of its “Erdmandliloch” (dwarf hole). You’ll have to decide for yourself whether dwarves really live there.
