It was one of the first internationally significant string quartets to play with alternating violins. At the same time, its outstanding technical level distinguished the ensemble throughout the years. With its brilliant sound, the Emerson String Quartet also paved the way for many a composition on the concert stages of the world.
For more than four decades, the Emerson String Quartet maintained its status as one of the world's leading chamber music ensembles. Now the quartet, founded in New York City in 1976 and named after philosopher Ralph Wedo Emerson, is embarking on its final tour. As part of this, the ensemble will bid farewell at the Theater Casino Zug with music by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvorák.
