“Colours of the air” is the title that Guido Baselgia (*1953) has given to his latest works. Despite having worked in his chosen field for several decades, these are his first-ever colour photographs. Using a mobile camera obscura, Baselgia has captured fascinating landscape images that become visible through the refraction of light. He made these in northern Norway, on the Piz Languard near Pontresina, and by the Atlantic Ocean. Taking this colourful group of works as its starting point, this exhibition brings together selected works from all periods of Baselgia’s oeuvre since the 1980s. Baselgia’s painterly, graphic-like, images of light bear witness to a lifelong exploration of the world and his passion for unknown images takes us on a quest for the very origins of photography – of its magic as an unadulterated, natural image comprising the materiality of light and the colours of the air.
