Finstersee roundtrip

Panorama Gottschalkenberg
Distance: approx. 15.5 km / Difficulty: medium

From Finstersee you walk downhill along Gottschalkenbergstrasse, crossing the Mülibach and at the waterfall you turn left to continue through a forest. At 882 metres you take a higher, yet flat trail, which offers a spectacular view. Back in the forest the trail climbs to Gottschalkenberg where food and beverages await you. The old health resort was rebuilt after a fire. Now it’s a restaurant with accommodations for families, clubs and schools. Close by there are several barbecue areas, a view onto Lake Zurich and various trails that get you back to Finstersee.
In 1240 Finstersee was originally a gift of the Free Lords of Rüschlikon to the Engelberg Monastery and later traded to the Kappel Monastery. In 1780 the hamlet of Finstersee had its first restaurant, which then also served as a customs office for those traveling from Zürich to Zug, The first round bridge in Europe was built on the Sihl River.
