The fresh air, the beautiful views, the colorful flower-filled meadows—what could be better than hiking over hill and dale? The loop trail starting in Cham is the perfect choice, dotted as it is with historic buildings and picturesque landscapes.
Walking across vast fields, you’ll reach the historic St. Wolfgang Church. This late-Gothic building is famous for having the most beautiful tabernacles in Switzerland! With the Reuss Plain clearly in view, the route descends to the Brickworks Museum in Hagendorn. It features a brick-sorting facility that is unique in Switzerland and offers guided tours and courses to teach visitors about the craft.
The route continues through the Herrenwald Forest to Frauenthal Abbey. It is situated on a small island formed by two branches of the Lorze River. With its 26 farmsteads, it resembles a small village.
Passing the Lorze’s last hydroelectric power plant, the trail continues to Rumentikon. After the Beerihof Schönau, you’ll descend to the river. On the next section, you’ll come to appreciate the importance of the Lorze to Cham. Cham has the most hydroelectric power plants in the canton of Zug.
