Cherry cultivation in the Zug-Rigi region has been practiced for half a millennium. Zug cherries and Rigi cherries have been sought after beyond the country’s borders for 200 years, and Zug and Schwyz are known for their blossoming standard cherry trees. A striking example of this is the “Arther Kirschgarten.” Wild cherry trees grow in the forests above the eastern shore of Lake Zug, and chestnut trees have been found on the climate-blessed slopes of the Walchwilerberg since the 14th century.
The blossom icons now indicate the current stage of blooming: pink means that the cherry blossoms have already begun to bloom along the trail, while white means that no cherry blossoms are in bloom yet.
