Under the large dial on which the time is displayed is a special clock: the astronomical clock. It has four hands and shows the day of the week, the month and the phase of the moon. One of the hands even shows whether it is a leap year. On the east side, the coats of arms of the old Swiss Confederation adorn the tower. Over the course of time, the Zytturm has been repeatedly embellished. After being struck by lightning in 1863, it was given a new helmet with a golden sphere.
However, the tower was not only used as a clock and vantage point. The so-called timpis, three small prison cells, used to house people who had broken the city rules.Visit to the Zytturm
