Die Kirschenkultur in der Region Zug-Rigi wird seit einem halben Jahrtausend gepflegt. Der Zuger Kirsch und der Rigi Kirsch sind bereits seit 200 Jahren über die Landesgrenzen hinaus begehrt, Zug und Schwyz sind bekannt für ihre blühenden Hochstamm-Kirschbäume. Ein eindrückliches Beispiel dafür ist der «Arther Kirschgarten». In den Wäldern über dem Ostufer des Zugersees wachsen Wildkirschbäume und seit dem 14. Jahrhundert sind Kastanienbäume an den klimaverwöhnten Abhängen des Walchwilerberges zu finden.
