Flying high - the most beautiful viewpoints in the region
by Claudia WirzThe Zugerland is hilly country. And where there are hills, there is no shortage of viewpoints. There are a few meters of altitude to conquer. The effort is worth it!Wildspitz
On the summit of the Wildspitz, the view sweeps into the distance. The Wildspitz naturally tops the list of the better-known hills, marking the highest point in the canton at 1,580 meters above sea level. This magnificent peak can only be reached with muscle power; the effort is worth it.
A relaxed walk in the Raten area also offers unobstructed views of lakes and mountains. The view extends far into the Alps, and those who have had their fill of the mountains can let their gaze wander over Lake Zurich on the Gottschalkenberg. It's not exactly an insider tip, but you can quickly get away from the crowds if you take the path towards Dreiländerstein at Clausenchappeli. Here you can enjoy the view of the Glarus Alps in peace and quiet on one of the sunny benches.
Gottschalkenberg
On the Gottschalkenberg, you can enjoy the view from a wooden platform. In response to the question of what really constitutes an insider tip, the answer could be Josefsgütsch. It is located in Neuheim and, as befits the Hirzel region, a mighty lime tree sits enthroned on the hill, which is around 720 meters high. The panorama from up here is hard to beat. And if you want to know what you can see from this box seat, you'll find the answers thanks to the panorama board. The Hirzell landscape with its gentle, green hills is particularly attractive. There is hardly a better place to feast your eyes on this view than at the cantonal school in Menzingen. A walk around Menzingen, past the district of Lüthärtigen, offers repeated glimpses of this lovely landscape created by the Linth glacier.
Josefgütsch
The Josefsgütsch in Neuheim is a real insider tip.If you're more in the mood for the city than the countryside, the Guggi above Zug's Postplatz is the perfect vantage point. No other place offers such a good view of the historic town of Zug with all its towers and churches. Incidentally, the Guggi is an oddity among all the hills in Zug. It is not a freak of nature, but was created during the construction of the Gotthard line at the end of the 19th century.
If you want to enjoy the legendary Zug sunsets from a higher vantage point, the Rägeten meadow above St. Michael's cemetery is the place to be. On beautiful evenings, the two benches are much sought-after. If you are looking for refreshments at sunset, the Landgasthof Blasenberg high above is the place to be, both in terms of food and the magnificent view.
Guggi
Just a few steps away from the old town, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city of Zug.Restaurant Blasenberg
In addition to the beautiful view of Zug, the Blasenberg restaurant is also known for its specialty capon, which has been served for over 65 years in the 3rd generation.A different view of Lake Zug opens up in Walchwil. The Rigi dominates the scenery, which can be admired on the Walchwil Vita-Parcours or on the Way of the Cross at the Elisabeth Center, a modern spa hotel. Rarely does anyone stray onto the quiet Way of the Cross, which winds its way up a steep, loosely wooded slope and offers plenty of places to sit. The Steinhauser Wald forest and its edge also offer wonderful views of the Zugerland from north to south and as far as the Bernese Alps.
Gnipen
On the Gnipen, the view extends as far as Lake Zug, Lake Lauerz and Lake Lucerne. In Baar, on the other hand, you can look out over the lake and mountains from the Allmend above the Spinnerei site, and the new loop footbridge with its 265 steps not only gets your circulation going, it also opens up a whole new perspective on the wooded surroundings.
Baar loop bridge
The loop footbridge connects the Buebegunte and Vogelwinkel areas. The hamlet of St. Wolfgang near Hünenberg, on the other hand, not only has magnificent views, but also an illustrious past. The historic ensemble of buildings in a prime location is worth a visit anyway; the view is an added bonus. Including the Zugerberg and the Gubel in this list of viewpoints seems superfluous due to the obviousness of their panoramic qualities. Nevertheless, there is still an insider tip for the Zugerberg: on the Lienisberghöhe, completely off the beaten track, you can enjoy an exclusive view of the Rigi and the Central Swiss landscape. Blessed are those who find their way here!
Restaurant Gubel
The Gubel restaurant is situated at one of the most beautiful vantage points in the municipality of Menzingen. At around 900 meters above sea level, the gentle ridge between the the Aegeri valley and the Menzingen plateau offers a breathtaking view of the the Baar plain, the Mittelland and on a clear day as far as the Alps.Recent Articles
