Morgarten Circuit

EN

Starting from the idyllic old town of Zug, there’s a fantastic e-bike route over the Zugerberg into the surrounding hills.

A woman and a man are cycling through in front of a chapel. The chapel stands in a meadow and is surrounded by cherry trees.

In addition to the scenic views of lakes and mountains, the area is home to the memorial site commemorating the Battle of Morgarten, where the Swiss Confederation faced its first major test in 1315.

But the Morgarten Loop isn’t just about halberds and maces—it’s also a thrilling ride through the “Rothenthurmer Moor” national nature reserve and the magical Lorzentobel with its industrial monuments and the “Höllgrotten” cave system. The route covers 70 km and 1,300 meters of elevation gain, offering a magnificent slice of unspoiled Switzerland right at your fingertips. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace can extend the trip to Einsiedeln, spend the night there, and complete the 90-km tour with 1,700 meters of elevation gain.
