The monumental abstract sculptures of Henry Moore (1898–1986) can be found all over the world, but only a few cities in Switzerland are home to works by this great sculptor. Zug is one of them. The “Edge Knife Figure,” which stands nearly four meters tall, is located at the entrance to the Badi Seeliken swimming pool right on the water’s edge and seems to watch over the swimmers. Originally placed on the grounds of the Landis & Gyr Foundation, the sculpture was presented to the city of Zug as a gift in 1977 and was finally installed by the lake following the casino expansion. The “Edge Knife Figure” was the first example of Moore’s “Standing Figures” in Switzerland. The statue combines a skeletal quality, winged characteristics, and femininity, similar to the Nike of Samothrace. It is a remarkable achievement for Zug to own a work by this outstanding artist.
