The open-air play “Spatenstich – The Second Morgarten Spectacle” thrilled a large audience at the historic Morgarten Monument in the summer of 2026.
From August 7 to September 19, 2026, the play by Paul Steinmann and Annette Windlin was performed 19 times outdoors; eleven performances were sold out. A total of 8,334 audience members saw the production, with an attendance rate of 95.6 percent.
Based on events surrounding the year 1315, the play told a modern story about tradition, change, and community: A planned construction project near the historic monument sparks debate in the valley, while memories of the past are reawakened. The production was carried by 41 amateur actors and actresses between the ages of 15 and 80, under the artistic direction of Annette Windlin.
