Wood-Fueled Heating Network - Menzingen

EN

Guided tour of the Menzingen Wood-Fired Heating Cooperative: Groups learn how a wood-chip heating system uses wood from the surrounding forests to supply the village with heat.

Holzwämreverbund Menzingen

The tour of the Menzingen Wood-Fired District Heating System showcases the wood-fired heating plant on Haldenstrasse, which heats the village center and the Menzingen Institute via a 2.5-kilometer-long district heating network. WWZ (Wasserwerke Zug) built the heating network and put it into operation in 2010. At full capacity, the wood chip heating system is fueled annually with approximately 9,500 cubic meters of wood chips from the surrounding forests. This saves over 900,000 liters of heating oil and 2,500 metric tons of CO2 each year.

The tour is suitable for corporate events, club outings, communities, and professionals interested in renewable energy and regional economic development. It is available year-round and lasts 75 minutes. Each guide can accommodate 8 to 20 participants, and two tours can take place simultaneously. Participants must be at least 12 years old; the facility is not wheelchair accessible. The tour can be combined with a visit to the Bloodhound guided missile site on the Gubel, also in Menzingen.
