Zug Tourism is committed to promoting responsible and more sustainable tourism in the canton of Zug. As a tourism organization, Zug Tourism is classified as “Level II: Engaged” under the Swisstainable program. In addition, the destination of Zug is also classified as “Level II: Engaged” under the Swisstainable program.

Swisstainable is the sustainability program for Swiss tourism. It is not a certification but rather classifies businesses and destinations into three levels based on their commitment: “committed,” “engaged,” and “leading.”

Sustainability at the Destination Level

Zug Tourism plays a coordinating and networking role in this effort. The sustainability strategy forms the foundation for the destination’s further development and integrates environmental, social, and economic aspects. The focus is on quality of life and quality of stay, regional value creation, and responsible tourism development.

This commitment is demonstrated, among other things, through concrete projects and collaboration with partners:

  • Sustainability Summit: The annual Sustainability Summit creates a platform for knowledge transfer, exchange, and networking among tourism stakeholders.
  • Zug Card: The Zug Card promotes sustainable mobility options and is designed to make it easy for guests to use public transportation.
  • Collaboration and Awareness-Raising: Together with municipalities, service providers, and other partners, sustainability issues are addressed, measures are developed, and experiences are shared.

The classification as a Swisstainable Destination Level II – engaged is an important milestone and, at the same time, an incentive to continue advancing the destination’s sustainable development. Further information on the goals, measures, and milestones to date can be found in Zug Tourism’s sustainability strategy and sustainability report.
