Swisstainable

Swisstainable is the sustainability program for Swiss tourism. It supports tourism businesses and destinations in systematically developing and showcasing their commitment to sustainability.

What is Swisstainable?

Swisstainable provides guidance on sustainability efforts in Swiss tourism. The program is aimed at both individual tourism businesses and organizations as well as entire destinations.

Swisstainable is not a standalone sustainability certification. Depending on the level, specific sustainability achievements and recognized proof of sustainability are taken into account.

The three Swisstainable levels

Level I – committed
: Basic commitment to sustainable development and the implementation of specific measures.

Level II – engaged
: Advanced commitment to sustainability with specific requirements and recognized proof of sustainability.

Level III – leading
: Comprehensive commitment to sustainability with recognized, externally verified proof of sustainability.

Swisstainable at the operational level

At the operational level, tourism businesses and organizations can be certified under the Swisstainable program. These include, for example, lodging facilities, restaurants, recreational providers, and tourism organizations.

Zug Tourism is classified at Level II – engaged at the operational level.

This involves the continuous development of its own sustainability commitment. Current measures taken by Zug Tourism include, among other things, internal sustainability training, hosting the Sustainability Summit, and participating in cleanup campaigns.

Swisstainable at the Destination Level

At the destination level, the sustainable development of an entire tourism destination is considered. The focus is not only on the activities of the tourism organization but also on collaboration with municipalities, tourism service providers, organizations, and other partners.

The Zug destination is classified as a Swisstainable Destination at Level II – engaged.

Zug Tourism plays a coordinating and networking role in this effort and works together with partners on the sustainable development of the destination. The sustainability goals and measures are based on the sustainability strategy and are continuously refined.
