The Zug Rötel is a lake char found exclusively in Lake Zug and Lake Ägeri. First mentioned in historical records as early as 1264, it was once used as a form of currency and was even shipped in barrels as far as Paris. Today, it is considered a rare delicacy: the first Rötel are caught starting in mid-November, and restaurants serve it primarily in November and December. Because supplies are limited, it’s a good idea to call the restaurant ahead of time.
